Using VPM Works Cloud

VPM Works Cloud is the software surface for the VPM method. The method pages explain why VPM works; this section explains how the Cloud product turns one project truth into the daily views people actually use.

The core operating rule is simple: tasks are the single point of truth. VPM, Gantt, Skyline, Fever Chart, My Work, reports, and messages are projections of that task data. When a task changes, the views update; users do not maintain separate status stories in separate tools.

One task truth feeding My Work, VPM, Gantt, Skyline, Fever Chart, reports, and messages
VPM Works Cloud keeps one task truth and serves it through role-specific views.

Start With Your Role

Most users begin in My Work, because it answers the personal question: "What is on my plate, and what is late?" From there, a selected row can open the same item in Gantt, open its parent in VPM, edit the task, or start a message.

Project managers and lane owners spend more time in the project views:

  • VPM View for cross-functional flow, handoffs, gates, Today, progress, and stand-up management.
  • Gantt View for detailed task entry, L3 action management, keyboard edits, and row-level structure.
  • Fever Chart for buffered schedule health.
  • Skyline for portfolio and workload health by project, function, discipline, or person.

The sidebar is organized around the way people work:

AreaPurpose
My AccountMy Work, My Messages, Profile, User's Manual, Session History
ProjectNew Project, Open Project, Close Project, Reports
Active ProjectVPM View, Gantt View, Project Messages, Project Manager tools
ResourcingResource request and allocation workflows
AdminOrganization setup, users, gate definitions, calendars, and related editors

The Open Project page is the project hub. It lists only projects the signed-in user can access, filtered by org role and project role. Administrators see all projects in the organization; project managers see their projects; editors and viewers see projects where they are on the project team.

Access Levels

VPM Works Cloud uses two access layers:

LayerExamplesWhat it controls
Organization accessSite Admin, Org Admin, MemberOrg setup, users, admin editors, project list ceiling
Project accessPM, Editor, ViewerProject editing, team management, swim lane and task access

Users who belong to more than one organization choose the organization before project data renders. This keeps project data scoped to the selected organization.
